Welcome back to the Boolprop Olympic challenge, where I will try to have a single sim write fifty books. This episode featured less progress than I would have liked, but slower going still counts for something.
This pop-up appeared while William was at work. Although it would technically have meant a promotion, it would have required him to start building two skills, gardening and fishing, that he had no experience in and would have taken quite a while to build. Therefore, he chose to stay the course.
William also got started on his sixth book, a humor novel this time. He needs two more to unlock satire novels, and since it was the weekend, there was enough time to complete it before the Sunday royalty deadline came up.
Oh, I plagiarized the title from a poem from the undergrad literary journal I used to read way back in college ago. I don't think anyone's going to sue.
"I spent so much time staring at the screen that I think I've gone cross-eyed."
At least it'll pay well, although I'm disappointed it wasn't a hit.
During the last chapter, William had met Tamara Donner, and the two of them had hit it off, so he invited her out. He'd asked her to go to the beach, but she disappeared somewhere, so he traveled to another location and tried again. That's why she's wearing a bathing suit in front of the theater. However, even though he really put the moves on her, their date went horribly. I haven't really tried dates in this game, so I don't know how they work; they're obviously not the same as in Sims 2, where you just have to do lots of romantic interactions with someone. Maybe I should have just invited her home for pizza and dancing.Oh, I plagiarized the title from a poem from the undergrad literary journal I used to read way back in college ago. At least William's career was going well, leading to another promotion, and a rather fetching uniform.
Because Tamara was tired out, William invited her over for their first night together. He had some money in the bank by this point, so he ensured their time in dreamland was spent in a nice, comfy new bed.
It was time for another quick book in William's specialty; a collection of short science fiction stories. (The title was partially inspired by an episode of The Magic School Bus where the kids tried to play baseball on a frictionless field.)
This town must have staffing problems; I think this was the third pop-up I saw (I didn't screencap the second one, I think). This one was a bit more tempting; William could have put his athletic skill to work in the Special Agent branch. However, I declined; he would have needed to start building logic from the ground up. More importantly, would have to spend time digging up information and writing reports, taking free time away from writing books.
As it turned out, it turned out to be a good thing that he didn't jump ship. He got another promotion and a nice pay jump.
"Who says loyalty doesn't pay? Semper fi!"
I think you're in the Air Force instead of the Marines, but the sentiment's valid enough, I hope.
Although William was tired, he had enough left in him to ask Tamara to meet him at the art gallery. Something had come up the last two times they'd gone out, so after she went to the ladies' room, it was time to make a move before anything else could happen. And so, William proposed in what was probably the most cramped possible place to be on one's knees.
The next day or so, it was wedding time. I really wanted to have a beach wedding, but considering the logistical problems that had come up during the last attempted date at the beach, they did the next best thing. There was at least a cozy firepit close by, and swimsuits were the expected attire, so the romantic atmosphere was still present.
The exchange of vows happened at a public pool; William had invited his friends Connor Frio (I could not turn down a fellow bookworm) and Emma Hatch (once a potential girlfriend, still a platonic friend) over. Although it could have been a private party, I figured letting strangers drop in would make for a more lively time. It was a great party; some salad and a boombox were apparently enough to kick up the mood. (The pool and building were inspired by a hot springs resort called The Springs near Idaho City, where my friend from Boise took me once.)
William had started working on another book, which he finished after the wedding.
The title of this trashy novel partly comes from Larry McMurtry's Streets of Laredo; I never read it all, but Crow Town was essentially a haven for Volbeat's so-called Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies.

Tamara had an entry-level job in Politics, but the two of them got several days off work for their honeymoon. While the two of them were unoccupied, it was a good time to get a garden going. (Life fruit is allowed in this challenge, and I think I'd prefer them both to stick around for a long time.)
Tamara's search had taken her to the shopping center, where she ran into Connor. Since he was already William's friend, it seemed fitting somehow that he should be her friend too; things culminated in the three of them having leftover waffles for dinner that night. Poor Connor had to spend part of the night on the couch, though, for reasons I'll let you guess.
William took advantage of his honeymoon as well. He finished his eighth book, another science fiction novel. Also, since there was plenty of money for it, he bought a new sink and spent some time upgrading it to keep his handiness skill sharp.
(The name"Polly India" was a pun on the linking of polymers in rubber during the vulcanization process.)

William got a phone call with an opportunity: Write a drama novel for a distant acquaintance. He did need to write a second drama novel to help unlock vaudeville down the line, so this was in line with the goal.
(Yes, I totally stole the title from the lyrics of "Naughty" from the musical adaptation of Matilda.)

Along with the new life in Tamara, a few other things bore fruit as well; the first crop and William's tenth novel were both ready.
By this point, four weeks and two days or so had passed. Progress wasn't as quick as I'd hoped; I think I vastly underestimated how long the writing would take. Still, it's twenty percent of the way there, better than nothing. And with that milestone passed, this is probably a good place to stop. Next time, we'll most likely get to meet the baby, and I'll find out if raising kids is just as hard in this game as in Sims 2. Until then, happy simming!
